WA: PART OF MARKET CATCHES FIRE.

About eight stores and shops in the Wa central market in the Upper West Region on Wednesday night were razed down by the fire.

The shops which are closer to the Butcher house in the Wa central market burnt down to ashes and the fire was said to have started at about 9 pm when everyone has gone home.

An eyewitness, Alhaj Awu said,moke from the inferno drew the attention of some people who quickly called on the Ghana National Fire Service for swift action to control the fire.

The GNFS who arrived at the scene took some hours to quench the fire.

However, properties such as sewing machines,    garments and tailoring materials,brooms,clothes, materials, fridges, fishes amongst others which were in the various stores and shops all burnt down to ashes including an undisclosed amount of money (physical cash) which belongs to one business woman also got burnt.

Some other shops contained food items which have been burnt to ashes.

While counting their losses, some others business persons said most of them in the market always light up fire in the market to solve their problems and refuse to quench it after use, they further said the congested nature of the market have prevented the fire officers from salvaging the fire situation.

The GNFS has begun an investigation to determine the cause of the fire that has led to the loss of properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis.
